This Victorian inlaid walnut loo table was made circa 1870 in one of the best workshops of the day. NOW SOLD
The cabinetmaker would have taken his time selecting the highly figured burr walnut for the top. Once this was selected, he then had to make a pattern for the wonderful inlaid border.
The table stands on a solid walnut quadruple pedestal base, each cabriole leg with fine carving to the knees comes off the turned bulbous column.
Loo was an extremely popular Victorian parlour game that the middle and upper classes played on such tables.
As guests and the extended family would be invited to join the owners for a game it became important to show how successful the owners were and so this table was a ‘No expense spared’ example.
Imagine how wonderful this will look in a dining room or as a magnificent table for an entrance hall.
