Regency satinwood sofa table

The Oxfordshire table
Here we have this wonderful sofa table.
Made in the exotic satinwood timber and with a wide darker banding around the top and drawers.
The table stands on very elegant end supports with splay legs and brass square toes with castors below.
It is fitted 2 drawers to the front and dummy drawers to the rear, thus allowing this superb table t be set in the middle of a room if required.
To each end of the top is a drop leaf that can reduce the size of the table if so required, each flap is supported by a swing out loper.
This sofa table would have been made for a very fine home in the Regency period, a period when exotic timber was much sought after, highly fashionable, as well as being very expensive.
Satinwood belongs to a family called Rutaceae, which contains nearly 2,000 other flowering shrubs, trees, and plants. The sisters and brothers of satinwood include citrus trees lime, lemon, mandarin orange, grapefruit, etcÂ
Varieties of satinwood are found in Southeast Asia, India, Sri Lanka, the West Indies, and Africa.
This satinwood on this table probably would have come from the West Indies.
