A superb pair of Victorian mahogany pedestal bedside chests by Warings of Liverpool, with beautifully figured mahogany, elegant turned columns and substantial moulded tops.
Each chest has five graduated drawers, providing excellent practical storage while retaining the impressive proportions and decorative character of fine Victorian bedroom furniture. The richly coloured mahogany showcases attractive figuring across the drawer fronts and tops, complemented by the turned and reeded pedestal columns, shaped feet and raised moulded bases.
The pair are particularly striking when displayed together and would make an elegant addition to a traditional or period bedroom. Their relatively compact footprint also makes them practical as bedside furniture while still providing generous drawer storage.
Warings of Liverpool was an established 19th-century cabinet-making and furnishing business. The Waring family business expanded significantly during the Victorian period and was later associated with Gillows, becoming Waring & Gillow.
