Description

Victorian walnut cabinet by Wylie & Lochhead

This high quality display cabinet was made in the Wylie and Lochhead workshops in Glasgow, Scotland, circa1860. NOW SOLD

The firm of Wylie and Lochhead formed in the early part of the 19thc.,  in 1829 and became renowned cabinetmakers, and reached their height of fame in the late part of the 19thc.

This cabinet has a one door glazed top with fitted shelves, and the base fitted a cupboard door that also enclose shelves.

The quality of the timber chosen by the cabinetmaker, was taken with time and deliberation, the walnut for the panel door especially so.

Yet another sign of the quality and care taken in the making of this was, that fine burr walnut was also used for the sides, the precious and expensive wood quite often was not used on the sides of pieces as it saved on cost, but not on this occasion.
